Ag protection area approved near Tremonton
Box Elder News Journal · Tremonton, Utah
Following a public hearing on July 7, the Box Elder County Commission officially approved an agricultural protection area for a 12.01-acre parcel of land near Tremonton. This designation is intended to preserve the agricultural utility of the land against non-farming encroachment.
While the original proposal included five parcels totaling over 40 acres, four were excluded because they were located in unzoned areas, which prevented them from meeting the legal requirements for this specific protection status. Community Development Director Scott Lyons confirmed that the resolution is now limited to the qualified 12.01 acres.
This measure supports the farming community by providing legal stability for agricultural operations. For the Tremonton area, the protection of this farmland helps maintain the region's agricultural heritage and contributes to the long-term sustainability of the local food and farming economy.
