Cache Valley Daily · Garland, Utah
The Bear River High School football team closed out an inspiring, hard-fought 2026 campaign in an offensive shootout against the Highland Rams in the opening round of the UHSAA Class 4A state playoffs.
Entering the 16-team state tournament as the No. 9 seed following gritty region victories, the Bears traveled to Salt Lake City to take on the No. 8-seeded Rams. In a game marked by explosive plays from both squads, Highland pulled away late to secure a 70-42 victory, bringing Bear River's postseason run to an end.
Despite the loss, the Bears' offensive unit put on a clinic of resilience and aerial execution. Senior playmakers repeatedly answered Highland scores with lightning-quick drives, keeping Bear River within striking distance deep into the second half.
"Our kids battled with everything they had from opening kickoff through the final whistle," said Bear River head coaching staff. "They represented Garland, Tremonton, and the entire Bear River Valley with immense heart and pride. While this isn't how we wanted the season to wrap up, the foundation these seniors built will carry our program forward."
Bear River concludes the 2026 season with head-turning individual performances and renewed optimism as underclassmen prepare to transition into winter athletic training.
