KUTV 2News · Box Elder County, Utah

Box Elder County Sheriff Kevin Potter has been placed on voluntary administrative leave following an off-duty traffic collision in neighboring Weber County that tragically resulted in the death of a motorcyclist.

### Details of the Incident

According to official reports from the Ogden Police Department, the two-vehicle collision occurred on the evening of October 27 at the intersection of Canyon Road and Valley Drive near the mouth of Ogden Canyon. Sheriff Potter's vehicle was involved in a collision with a motorcycle operated by 22-year-old Katie Sue Ruth Huggins. First responders transported Ms. Huggins to a local hospital in critical condition, where she sadly succumbed to her injuries.

Sheriff Potter remained on scene, cooperated fully with investigating officers, and submitted to standard post-incident procedures.

### Standard Personnel Protocol & Continuity of Command

In accordance with established Box Elder County personnel policy and law enforcement best practices, Sheriff Potter requested and was granted voluntary administrative leave to ensure full transparency while outside agencies—including the Ogden Police Department and the Weber County Attorney's Office—conduct an independent, exhaustive accident reconstruction and investigation.

Box Elder County leadership confirmed that the Sheriff's Office continues uninterrupted operations under the command of Chief Deputy Mike Allred and senior supervisory staff across patrol divisions, emergency dispatch, and the Box Elder County Jail in Brigham City.
