Box Elder High Bees Football Captures First Outright Region Title in 23 Years

Standard-Examiner · Brigham City, Utah

The Box Elder High School Bees delivered a football performance for the history books, defeating the West Field Longhorns 28-7 to capture the Region 5 championship outright for the first time in 23 years.

The Bees hadn't claimed an undisputed region football crown since 2003, making Friday night's triumph in front of a thunderous Brigham City crowd an emotional and long-awaited milestone for the community. From the opening whistle, Box Elder set the tone with relentless line play and an unyielding defensive front.

Quarterback Kadyn Reyes provided an electric opening spark, breaking loose through the Longhorns' secondary for a 51-yard touchdown scramble that brought the home stands to their feet. Workhorse running back Judd Howells anchored the offensive attack from that point forward, battering his way through tackles for three rushing touchdowns behind an imposing Bees offensive line.

Defensively, Box Elder held one of northern Utah's most explosive passing attacks to just a single score, forcing critical turnovers on downs and shutting down West Field's second-half momentum. With the historic regular season championship secured, the Bees now turn their sights to a deep postseason run as a top seed in the UHSAA 5A state football tournament.
