Brigham City bans cryptocurrency ATMs as new ordinance takes effect

Cache Valley Daily · Brigham City, Utah

Brigham City has officially implemented a new ordinance that bans all cryptocurrency ATMs within city limits. Following the City Council's May 7 vote, the policy became enforceable as of July 7, 2026, targeting kiosks that officials believe are frequently utilized in predatory financial scams.

Local law enforcement took an active role in the transition, identifying two existing kiosks prior to the deadline and working with host businesses to ensure their removal. Police confirmed that both locations had complied by the time the ordinance went into effect on Tuesday, avoiding potential legal action for the business owners involved.

The move is largely aimed at protecting residents from significant financial loss, with studies showing that cryptocurrency kiosks are often linked to hundreds of millions of dollars in national fraud. Moving forward, the city has warned that any business caught housing a prohibited kiosk will face class B misdemeanor charges for every day the machine remains on the premises.
