Brigham City Council Approves $220,000 Gym Facility Design Amendment in 3–2 Vote
Brigham City Corporation · Brigham City, Utah
Following two public input work sessions, the Brigham City Council voted 3–2 on Nov. 5 to amend the FY 2026–27 Capital Projects Fund budget by up to $220,000—scaled down from an initial $500,000 staff estimate—to complete architectural design and bid-package plans for a proposed municipal gym facility. Council Members Ryan Smith, Robin Troxell, and Matthew Jensen voted in favor after City Administrator Derek Oyler confirmed the funds sit in existing Capital Projects fund balance without reducing FY 2026–27 appropriations, while Council Members Dave Jeffries and Dave Hipp dissented over mid-year budget amendments, taxpayer strain, and future operating costs.
