Brigham City gym proposal heads toward vote as subsidies to cover operating costs come into focus
Box Elder News Journal · Brigham City, Utah
Brigham City’s proposed 26,500-square-foot indoor community gym will require an ongoing municipal subsidy, officials acknowledged at an Oct. 29 work session as the city council prepares for a Nov. 5 vote on allocating $500,000 for facility design. Brigham City Recreation Director Chris Horsley estimated annual operating expenses of approximately $116,000 for a three-court facility or $110,000 if scaled to two courts. The city council is evaluating sales tax revenue bond funding and operating revenue models to determine the long-term tax and community impact before taking action.
