County approves Garland island annexation

Box Elder News Journal · Garland, Utah

The Box Elder County Commission unanimously approved the annexation of 3.66 acres into Garland City on July 29, 2026. This administrative action resolves an "island annexation" scenario, where the parcel of land—owned by Michael Hurd—was geographically isolated from other county jurisdictions.

According to Community Development Director Scott Lyons, the move was required by Utah law to properly align the jurisdiction of the property. The land, located near 12800 North and 7000 West, now falls officially under the regulatory purview of Garland City.

The annexation ensures consistent delivery of municipal services to the affected parcel. For the broader community, this reflects the commission's ongoing efforts to clean up jurisdictional boundaries and maintain orderly administrative growth.
