BRIGHAM CITY — Doug Christensen, a career Utah Highway Patrol trooper, was elected as the new Box Elder County Sheriff as final general election results were tallied early Wednesday.
Christensen, born and raised in Bear River where he continues to live, ran as an unaffiliated candidate alongside fellow unaffiliated contender Allen Shinney. Both entered the contest after deadlines passed for the Republican primary, following controversy when municipal law enforcement agencies in Brigham City, Tremonton, and Perry opted to transfer their emergency dispatch services to Weber area 911.
Deputy Mike Allred had previously defeated incumbent Sheriff Kevin Potter in the June Republican primary, after which Potter took voluntary administrative leave following a vehicle collision in Ogden Canyon. Following his victory, Christensen emphasized that he aims to bring fresh perspectives, strengthen community engagement, and boost officer morale across the department.
