Four Fourth of July Fires Stretch Brigham City Emergency Resources

Daily Dispatch · Brigham City, Utah

On the night of July 4, 2026, Brigham City emergency services were pushed to their limits as four separate fires broke out simultaneously across the city. According to Fire Chief Brandon Thueson, officials strongly suspect that personal fireworks were the cause of all four blazes, which included two grass fires and two structure fires.

The most devastating incident occurred near 500 West and 800 South, where a fire completely destroyed a motorhome, rendering it a total loss. While the two residents were safely evacuated and uninjured, emergency crews successfully rescued a cat from inside the burning vehicle. Another structure fire near 300 East and 300 South damaged a carport, though fortunately, no nearby vehicles were harmed.

Brigham City's fire department experienced severe resource strain during the busy holiday evening. Despite implementing double-staffing protocols and receiving mutual aid from the neighboring Tremonton Fire Department, local emergency responders were stretched thin due to the overlapping fires, the city's official scheduled fireworks show, and multiple medical emergency calls occurring at the same time.

The incidents have left two local residents displaced, facing the loss of their home and requiring extensive recovery assistance. This series of holiday fires serves as a stark safety reminder to the Box Elder County community regarding the high risks associated with personal firework usage, especially during dry summer conditions.
