Golden Spike Rodeo inducted into Utah Cowboy Hall of Fame

The Leader (Tremonton) · Brigham City, Utah

The historic Golden Spike Rodeo, a cornerstone of the Box Elder County Fair, has been formally inducted into the Utah Cowboy Hall of Fame at Ogden’s Union Station. This recognition honors the rodeo’s century-long legacy as a hub for agricultural heritage and its role as Utah’s oldest continuous rodeo event.

Beginning in 1925, the event has evolved from a local three-day showcase into a major four-day Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association Playoff Series competition. The rodeo is celebrated for its deep ties to ranching families, its consistent sell-out crowds, and the iconic tradition of local cowgirls carrying the American flag during opening ceremonies.

For the Box Elder community, this induction validates the tireless work of volunteers, sponsors, and directors like Jan Rhodes. The award cements the rodeo's status as a premier cultural institution, ensuring its continued prominence as it prepares for the upcoming annual fair in August.
