Parks and Rec blazes future trails in Tremonton
The Leader (Tremonton) · Tremonton, Utah
Tremonton City Council officially approved a new Parks, Trails and Open Space Master Plan on Tuesday, aimed at managing the city’s rapid population growth. The plan replaces outdated documents and establishes a long-term framework for infrastructure development, ensuring the city secures necessary land for future parks before residential development makes space acquisition cost-prohibitive.
Developed with extensive community feedback, the strategy identifies gaps in current park access and prioritizes a more connected trail system. Officials noted that while Tremonton previously saw modest growth, the recent surge in housing development necessitated a more proactive approach to land use, with a focus on ensuring residents can reach parks within a half-mile of their homes.
To fund these improvements, the city is exploring options including a potential 'RAP' (Recreation, Arts and Parks) tax, which could generate approximately $300,000 annually. By providing a clear roadmap through 2050, the city hopes to preserve high-quality recreational spaces, which will significantly impact the long-term lifestyle and health outcomes for Tremonton citizens.
