Preston woman sentenced for probation violation in assault case

Shannon Leigh Karpowich, a 39-year-old woman from Preston, Idaho, has been sentenced to an additional 90 days in jail following a probation violation. This sentencing stems from a previous conviction for aggravated assault and kidnapping. Karpowich, alongside co-defendant Kelly G. Olson, was initially arrested in the fall of 2025 following a violent altercation at a home in Logan.
The incident occurred on October 27, 2025, after a verbal dispute between Karpowich and her 46-year-old brother regarding loud music. According to court records, the victim—who was recovering from back surgeries and a broken foot—was punched, held down, and shoved over a table by the defendants. Medical professionals later confirmed the victim sustained three broken ribs and significant bruising during the attack.
During her July 6, 2026, show-cause hearing in Logan’s First District Court, the judge ordered the additional jail time followed by 48 months of probation. Meanwhile, her co-defendant, Kelly G. Olson, faces charges of first-degree felony aggravated kidnapping and second-degree felony aggravated assault. Olson has entered a plea of not guilty and is expected to appear in court again on August 17, 2026.
