Promontory turns statewide read-a-thon into all-day adventure

Box Elder News Journal · Perry, Utah

Students and staff at Promontory School of Expeditionary Learning in Perry turned Utah’s annual statewide Read-a-Thon into an immersive, all-day literacy adventure designed to inspire a lifelong passion for reading. Joining thousands of participants across Utah, the public charter school expanded beyond quiet reading sessions by staging interactive 'reading expeditions' throughout campus.

The day featured multidisciplinary storytelling stations, cross-grade buddy reading between older and younger students, and special guest storytellers from around the local community. The activities encouraged critical thinking and teamwork, aligning with Promontory's project-based expeditionary learning curriculum.

School leaders emphasized that community-centered literacy celebrations help cultivate strong reading habits, broaden vocabulary, and build enthusiasm for educational achievement among Box Elder County elementary and middle school students.
